Running
So I am not a runner. Not one bit. Never have been, but I’m attempting to be one.
I had this hair-brain idea a few weeks ago that I should try running a half marathon. Why would a non-runner what to run a half marathon? I dunno – if you have ideas, let me know because I sure don’t.
So this non-runner decided to download an app to help the training process. Sadly, it decided to freeze in the middle of one of the workouts and delete all the data stored. So this non runner purchased another training app, and this time around it’s working just fine.
The new app has me running for 3 minutes and walking for 2 minutes. That would be great and all, except that running for 1 minute makes me want to die. Whoofty, I have a long ways to go. Did I mention that today is June 10th, and the half marathon I registered/paid for is September 5th? 86 days to get my rear in gear and be able to run 13.1 miles. EEK!
So far I have discovered the following:
- I’m out of shape
- Compression socks are amazing
- Walking on cross training days is a dumb idea
- This is much more of a time commitment than I had anticipated
- I need to learn this concept: Go to bed early, so I can wake up early (been trying this for years and it isn’t worked yet)
- I really love buying workout clothes, I just wish I looked better in them!
- Good music is a must. I tried listening t my whole music library on shuffle and was sorely disappointed.
We shall see how this whole thing plays out. Hopefully it ends with me finishing a half marathon where I’m not walking the entire time.
